Mineola Middle School is taking a stand against bullying. Students came together to observe Unity Day on Oct. 21, a day to show unity for kindness, acceptance and inclusion.

Middle Schoolers gathered outdoors during lunch periods to write positive quotes and draw pictures on rocks. Some messages that students wrote read, “spread kindness,” “be positive” and “you are loved.” The rocks will be put together into a rock garden in the middle school’s courtyard, meant as a public display to share the students’ positive messages.

Many students wore the color orange at the rock-decorating event in support of Unity Day and to raise awareness about their anti-bullying efforts. The activity aligned with National Bullying Prevention Month, which takes place throughout October.
