Day or night, WiFi Whenever is on! The Nassau Library System, a cooperative of the 54 independent public libraries serving Nassau County, is pleased to announce WiFi Whenever, a project that extends high-quality wireless broadband to outdoor spaces at 25 libraries and community partner organizations.

This free service is available 24/7 at all participating locations.

“The pandemic has proven that reliable access to the internet is now essential for full participation in the social, educational, and working aspects of life.

With WiFi Whenever, Nassau’s public libraries are providing free internet access, even before and after operating hours, to anyone that needs it,” said Caroline Ashby, Director of the Nassau Library System.

This new service will allow residents of Nassau County, including those who may not have strong connectivity options at home, to participate in virtual education, employment applications, job interviews, telehealth, and videoconferencing around the clock. Simply join the wifi network called “WiFi Whenever” at any participating location. Find the nearest location and learn more at WiFiWhenever.org.

“During the height of the pandemic, people sat in cars in the staff parking lot to be as close to the library as possible to get internet access,” said Mamie Eng, director of the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library in Valley Stream. “With the expanded reach of WiFi Whenever, they can be in the parking lot, on nearby benches, and in the park grounds around the library and still get internet access 24/7! We’re thrilled to provide this valuable service to our community!”

This project is supported by federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the New York State Library.

The Nassau Library System is a cooperative public library system whose mission is to support and strengthen the 54 independent public libraries in Nassau County, NY. For more information, and to find your local library, visit nassaulibrary.org.
