National Veterans and Military Families Month celebrated at social center

Local veterans and Nassau County Legislator Ellen Birnbaum (D – Great Neck) celebrated National Veterans and Military Families Month at the Great Neck Social Center’s veterans club on Tuesday, Nov. 13.

During the gathering, Birnbaum had the opportunity to thank those in attendance for their military service and listen to Great Neck resident Krista-Marie Noel discuss her experiences serving in the U.S. Navy. In addition, J. Paul Vista, deputy director of Nassau County’s Veterans Service Agency, spoke to attendees about services that the county provides to veterans.

The Social Center’s veterans club began after Executive Director Ann Tarcher placed an ad in a community newspaper and invited World War II and Korean War veterans to gather and share their stories. Over time, the group has grown to include more than 60 men and women.

“The Great Neck Social Club provides valuable services through its Veterans Club and captures the true spirit of National Veterans and Military Families Month through its actions,” Birnbaum said. “It was a pleasure to join them in celebration of their courageous service and listen to Krista-Marie Noel, a young constituent who made the admirable choice to dedicate herself to military service.”
