The Manorhaven Nature Preserve has seen renewed interest over the past few years thanks to the work of many volunteers and donations.
In 2017, the Long Island Native Plant Garden was designed, followed by the creation of Growing Love Community Garden and an upgrade to the Manorhaven Dog Park in 2018.
Several diverse and native trees that support the woodland character of the Manorhaven preserve were planted this month.
Trees included oak, birch, beech, elm and hornbeam, which are just the first step in the restoration of this unique woodland link between Shore Road and Manorhaven Beach Park.
Residents noted the loss of trees in Manorhaven. These newly planted trees will replace dying trees and fast-growing invasive species trees that crowd out more native plants.
Manorhaven’s Deputy Mayor Priscilla von Roeschlaub thanked resident Master Gardener Pat Valente and tree proponent Hildur Palsdottir for working with the village on this important project.
