Members of the New Hyde Park-Mineola Runners Club attended the Kiwanis’ pancake breakfast at the Mineola Community Center to support the Kiwanis.

The Kiwanis is a positive non-profit organization of volunteers dedicated to improving their community. The Kiwanis holds events and fundraisers throughout the year to benefit local charities and causes. For information on the Kiwanis and to become involved visit their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pg/kiwaniscountyseat/events/?ref=page_internal.

The Runners Club supports Boy Scout Troops 298 and 544. Scouts volunteer at the Club’s annual U.S.A. Track and Field Long Island Division Championship 8k race and community event and receive credit for community service, and the Club donates race proceeds to the troops.

The Club also supports the participation of para athletes and special needs athletes at its annual race. In 2019 the Club is working to expand and fund a greater program.

The Club’s main charity is the Nassau County Firefighter’s Operation Wounded Warrior program—which provides benefits and services above what the VA provides, to wounded veterans throughout Long Island, as well as at Walter Reid, Camp Lajune, and Fort Bragg. In December 2018 this vital program delivered 60 IPads, 10 PCs, and two packed U-Haul trucks to these three military bases and their personnel.

The Club has donated well over $40,000 to its charities in under a decade.

In 2018, the Town of North Hempstead recognized the NHP-Mineola Running Club as an outstanding organization for its dedication to community service.

The Club’s 42nd Annual Championship 8K Race/Community event is scheduled for Sunday, June 2, at the Denton Avenue School. For information on how to become a sponsor, volunteer, and to learn about the club, contact Harold Axelrod at bcshja@msn.com or Stephen Cipot at Stephenjcipot@hotmail.com
