New Hyde Park Knights of Columbus, Council No. 2852 and Columbiettes participated in the greater “New Hyde Park Sponsor a Family” program this year.

The Knights of Columbus and Columbiettes, the ladies auxiliary, are Catholic fraternal organizations rooted in charity. Knights and Columbiettes were given three shopping bags each with specific items to be purchased for each bag. By filling all three bags a family in need would have the basic Thanksgiving meal needs.

This year a total of 175 bags were collected, averaging 23 lbs. per bag for a total of more than two tons of food.

In addition, the knights and ladies donated $645 in cash and gift cards to purchase Thanksgiving turkeys. The bags of food and money were distributed between the parishes served by our Council, Notre Dame, Holy Spirit and Our Lady of the Snows, as well as, St. Martha in Uniondale.

If you would like more information on becoming a Knight of Columbus or Columbiette, please contact either Grand Knight John Thomas or Columbiette President Phyllis Thomas.
