Just in time for the start of school, Nassau County has installed pedestrian safety devices on East Williston Avenue in front of the North Side Elementary School.

Nassau County Presiding Officer Richard Nicolello worked with school officials, parents, Nassau County Public Works, East Williston Mayor Bonnie Parente and County Executive Curran to secure the devices, including a device known as a rectangular rapid flashing beacon.

This beacon will allow pedestrians to call attention to drivers that pedestrians will be walking across the crosswalk. The beacon was installed along with ADA-accessible ramps, school zone signage, and new crosswalk markings.

Submitted by the Office of Presiding Officer Rich Nicolello.
