The volunteer organization that supports North Shore University Hospital recently presented leadership with a check for $100,000, part of its $2 million overall pledge toward the renovation of the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
The Auxiliary of North Shore University Hospital made the ambitious fundraising goal at the end of 2016 with hopes of achieving the multimillion-dollar pledge over the next 10 years. The check handed over at a leadership meeting earlier this month represents $500,000 raised in 2018 alone – and $1 million collected in just two years.
“We are grateful for the hard work and dedication of the Auxiliary Board at North Shore University Hospital,” said Dr. Alessandro Bellucci, the hospital’s executive director. “Their commitment to raising $2 million towards the renovation of the NICU is inspirational, and will greatly improve the environment for our patients and their families receiving care in the NICU. The Auxiliary is vital to our team at the hospital, and our community and patient care is better because of their service.”
The Auxiliary of North Shore University Hospital also raises money for and donates to other hospital programs, including nursing scholarships and awards, the chaplain residency program, memorial services, Child Life, Team Lavender, Stroke Support Club as well as gifts to patients on Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and on Christmas Day.
“We are very proud to announce this $100,000 donation, bringing us to $1 million toward our pledge,” said Lori Ballen, president of the Auxiliary Board. “We are at the halfway mark.”
