He succeeds Dr. Raj K. Narayan, who after 12 years as chair will transition to chair emeritus.

Sciubba comes to Northwell from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine where he served as professor of neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, oncology, radiation oncology and molecular radiation sciences. “After an extensive national search, we are delighted to appoint Dr. Sciubba to lead the health system’s neurosurgery service line,” said Dr. Lawrence Smith, executive vice president and physician-in-chief for Northwell Health and dean of the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell. “We thank Dr. Narayan for his steadfast leadership over the past 12 years in which he created a nationally-recognized multidisciplinary team of neurosurgeons and neurointensivists, and also helped build an extremely competitive residency program. We are confident that Dr. Sciubba will continue to strengthen the health system’s neurosurgery services throughout Northwell. Dr. Sciubba possesses the leadership qualities, academic and research credentials, advanced clinical skillset, and overall commitment to excellence that are necessary to lead Northwell’s neurosurgical program in the next era of its development.”

Sciubba received his medical degree from the College of Physicians & Surgeons at Columbia University, and is soon to receive a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. His post-doctoral training included a residency in neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital and two complex spine fellowships at JHU and Shriners Hospital in Philadelphia, Penn.
