Northwell Health’s Endovascular and Vascular Center is the first program of its kind to earn a Center of Excellence accreditation for quality surgical care in an outpatient setting by the Surgical Review Committee.

The rigorous accreditation process, which is voluntary, evaluates 10 major areas of endovascular and vascular surgical care, focusing on continuously improving health care quality outcomes and patient safety.

“The staff at our program are excited not only to establish the first-ever accreditation in our surgical field but also demonstrate our quality outcomes and commitment to the highest level of patient care,” said Dr. Omid Rahmani, medical director of Northwell’s Endovascular and Vascular Center.

Northwell’s clinicians recognized the need to create a category of accreditation in endovascular and vascular surgery, which hadn’t previously existed. Over the last nine months Northwell staff collaborated with the independent Surgical Review Committee to establish the standards for similar programs throughout the world seeking this best-in-class recognition. Northwell earned the first.

The ambulatory center has performed more than 2,000 procedures annually since it opened in 2013. Before Northwell provided vascular and endovascular procedures on an outpatient basis, many were treated at the hospital, Rahmani said. “Our program is unique in that we collaborate with interventional radiology, oncology and nephrology physicians and have full-time anesthesiologists on staff, ensuring the highest level of safety and expert pain management for our patients,” he added.

Procedures performed at the Endovascular and Vascular Center include access maintenance and repair for patients on hemodialysis, diagnosis and treatment of peripheral artery disease to improve circulation to lower extremities, treatment for venous diseases such as varicose veins, and placement and management of chemotherapy ports. “The collaboration between interventional radiology and vascular surgery at our center is exquisitely unique in the field,” said Dr. Craig Greben, chief of interventional radiology services at Northwell Health.

“Our patient experience and satisfaction is unrivaled at our ambulatory center,” DGreben said. “Patients drive up to valet parking and are escorted into the suite, receive expert care and personalized observation and recovery, and then are escorted out of the facility back to the valet – there is no better way to take care of our patients. Our program runs like clockwork. We are truly setting the standard of care in this country for our surgical specialty.”

The center, located at 1999 Marcus Avenue in Lake Success, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call 516-233-3777.
