Dr. Fred Lado, regional director of epilepsy for Northwell Health’s Eastern and Central Regions, was honored as a recipient of the Professional Achievement Award at EPIC Long Island’s Gala. The event took place Feb. 15 at the Garden City Hotel.

“I recall reading something that could have been written about Dr. Lado,” said Thomas M. Hopkins, EPIC Long Island’s president and chief executive officer. “The good physician treats the disease. The great physician treats the patient who has the disease. Patients, peers, and staff all agree – Dr. Lado is a great physician.”

Lado’s clinical expertise focuses on treating patients who have not responded well to medication. His research focuses on advanced neuroimaging and electroencephalography (EEG) analysis to better understand brain function and the changes that occur in the brain due to epileptic seizures.

He is a member of the American Epilepsy Society, the American Academy of Neurology and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society. He also serves on the board of the National Association of Epilepsy Centers, and as vice-chair of the physician advisory board of the Epilepsy Foundation of Metropolitan New York. The author or co-author of numerous papers and book chapters, Lado has presented at many professional meetings.

“I am very honored to have received this award from EPIC Long Island with whom Northwell Health has built a strong partnership,” said Lado. “I look forward to furthering our collaboration as we share the same commitment in improving the quality of life for patients in our community living with epilepsy.”
