The wet weather on April 27 that forced the NYIT Relay for Life to move indoors could not dampen the spirits of those participating in the annual event to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer.

Members of the NYIT campus community, representing friends, families, caregivers, and survivors who have been affected by cancer, gathered on the Old Westbury campus to remember loved ones and fight back against the disease.

Participants dedicated luminaria to honor lives touched by cancer; shared a short bio or story of survivors, caretakers or loved ones lost to cancer; and walked a “silent lap” in memory of Alice Heron-Burke, who served a generation of NYIT students as director of counseling.
