Marshall track and field sophomore Denisha West qualified for the 2018 NCAA East Outdoor Track and Field Preliminary Championships, set to take place May 24 to 26 in Tampa, Florida.

The meet is a qualifier for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Eugene, Oregon in June.

The top 48 athletes in both the East and West Region in each individual track and field event qualify for the NCAA Preliminary Meets. The East Region is comprised of 213 women’s programs. The athlete selections are based on top marks set anytime throughout the outdoor season.

Denisha West, a sophomore from Old Westbury, qualified in the triple jump and set her top mark and personal best at the Cal Poly ShareSLO Invitational in March at 12.57 meters (41 feet, 3 inches). Her mark is the fifth-best outdoor personal record in Marshall school history.

West continues the streak of at least one Marshall athlete qualifying for the NCAA East Preliminary Championships every year since 2008. Since 2012, Marshall has had six qualifiers in the triple jump (Jasia Richardson-2012, 2013, 2014; Crystal Walker-2013; Antonique Butler-2016, 2017).

West enters the East Preliminary Championships with the 46th best jump in the region. She will compete Saturday and is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m. ET.
