The Island Now

The Port Washington Water District (PWWD) is pleased to announce the hiring of James Gildea of Greenvale, N.Y. Gildea will join the district as its new water service supervisor. He will fill the void created when Tom Chodowski, former supervisor and 30-year veteran of the PWWD, retired on Aug. 31.

“We thank Tom Chodowski for his decades of dedicated service to the Port Washington Water District and the overall community,” said David Brackett, chairman of the PWWD Board of Commissioners. “While he has big shoes to fill, we have nothing but confidence in James Gildea’s ability to fulfill the needs of his new position and ensure the delivery of quality water to our residents.”

Gildea brings nearly 20 years of experience in water system operations and management to the Port Washington Water District. He was previously employed by the Incorporated Village of Garden City’s Water Department where he served as Supervisor of Water Operations. He began work with the Village Water Service trainee during the summer of 1999, steadily moving up to senior water plant operator leading to his promotion to Supervisor of Water for the village in 2013.

As the water service supervisor, Gildea will oversee staff activities and facilitate daily coordination with the plant operation and distribution departments. His primary responsibilities include monitoring safety, promoting staff morale and conducting staff performance evaluations. Additionally, Gildea will prepare work for the water distribution and water plant systems, order materials and supplies for construction, and arrange outside activities.
