Preschool students in Christine O’Grady’s classes at Hampton Street School in the Mineola Union Free School District recently completed a unit on polar bears.

During their studies, they learned how tall a polar bear is and how the bears stay warm despite the cold water and temperatures.

As an activity, students put on “polar bear hands” – a bag filled with Crisco to mimic a bear’s fat – and stuck their hands in ice water.
