Research Proposal Symposium at Elmont Memorial

Elmont Memorial High School recently held its 13th annual Science Research Proposal Symposium in the newly renovated school library.

At the event, students were given the opportunity to present their research proposals for 2017-18 school year and present data obtained during their summer laboratory placements. Student researcher Ifeoluwa Tugbobo explained the work she completed at Albert Einstein University entitled, “Improving Epithelialization-utilizing RNAi knockdown of Fidgetin-Like 2 in HUVEC cells” and sophomore Maxline Delorme discussed her proposal “Investigation of the Kynureine Pathway on the development of depression in Caenorhabditis elegans.”

Other student presenters included, senior Dominique Brown, juniors Michael Lawes, Brianna Munn, Lauren Munn, Justice Vidal, sophomores Rafiyat Adenlola, Imani Favard, Angela Melendez, Akuchinyerem Onyeobia, Marvia Pressoir, and freshmen Hannah Meikle, Lina Pinzon-Barrata and Tochi Ukegbu.

Students completed a formal presentation and answered questions from the audience, which included parents, staff members and fellow students.
