Jody and Jason Schwartz of Roslyn were presented with the Sunrise Champion Award at the Sunrise Association’s Dare to Dream Benefit which raised $800,000 for Sunrise Day Camps — the only day camps in the world for children with cancer and their siblings — and year-round programs, all offered free of charge.
Also honored were William S. Villafranco, trustee of the Virginia B. Toulmin Foundation, and Ellie Aronowitz-Witkes, with Arnie Preminger, President of the Sunrise Association.
Providing memorable summers since 2006 for children ages 3 and a half through 18, Sunrise Association Day Camps bring the simple pleasures of childhood back to children struggling with cancer, changing months of loneliness and isolation into summers filled with sunshine, laughter and happiness.
Because they are day camps, it allows children to continue their medical treatment and enjoy the comfort and safety of their own homes at night. There are currently seven Sunrise Association Day Camps — three in New York (Long Island, Pearl River and Staten Island), three in Israel (Beit Yehoshuah, Be’er Sheva and Ramat Yochanan), Horizon Day Camp in Baltimore, Maryland and Aurora Day Camp in Atlanta, Georgia.
Sunrise Day Camps are affiliated with 30 renowned hospitals and medical centers around the world.
