Nassau County Legislator Ellen W. Birnbaum (D – Great Neck) visited the Herricks School District’s Searingtown Elementary School in Albertson on Tuesday, Feb. 5, where she was welcomed as a guest reader on National Read Aloud Day.

After reading “Pink is for Boys” by Robb Pearlman to Mrs. Chiarulli’s Kindergarten class, Legislator Birnbaum discussed the book’s message that colors are for everyone, regardless of gender, and spoke to students about government and public safety.

“In celebrating gender equality, it is important to encourage young people to pursue their dreams,” Birnbaum said. “I was honored to have been invited to share the inclusive message of “Pink is for Boys” with these students and hope its lessons resonate throughout their school years.”
