Sharsheret, the only national not-for-profit organization dedicated to addressing the needs of women and families of all Jewish backgrounds facing breast cancer and ovarian cancer, announced its partnership with Northwell Health. The collaboration will provide a wealth of resources for New York State’s largest health system, its breast and ovarian cancer patients as well as leverage Sharsheret’s expertise in psychosocial support.

Sharsheret will offer free Best Face Forward kits (makeup kits addressing the side effects of treatment), Busy Boxes (resources and personalized boxes of toys and games for parents facing breast or ovarian cancer while raising young children), Thriving Again survivorship kits, and newly diagnosed resource packets to Northwell Health breast and ovarian cancer patients. These resources will be introduced to patients through co-branded cards and referral forms distributed to patients and with posters on display at Northwell Health Cancer Institute facilities. Cards, referral forms, and posters will explain how Northwell Health patients can order kits. In addition, Sharsheret staff will be onsite at Northwell Health cancer centers to provide support as needed for patients and caregivers on a monthly basis.

“Working together with Northwell Health, we understand first-hand the importance of providing the highest level of care while being intimately knowledgeable about the unique issues and concerns of each and every patient,” said Sharsheret Executive Director Elana Silber. “Our partnership will provide true patient-centered care, support and education that will improve the quality of life for thousands of women and families facing breast and ovarian cancer in Queens, Long Island, Westchester and Staten Island.”

“Collaborating with Sharsheret extends our reach to provide additional support to women diagnosed with breast and ovarian cancers through survivorship,” said Richard Barakat, MD, Physician-in-Chief and Director of the Northwell Health Cancer Institute. “Our focus at Northwell is to provide the highest quality comprehensive cancer care. We recognize patients and their families facing breast or ovarian cancer have unique needs and we are grateful to receive the additional support from Sharsheret.
