The Oscar and Tony Award winning musical, The Sound of Music, will be presented by South High School on Friday, Nov. 18, and Saturday, Nov. 19, in the school’s auditorium, 341 Lakeville Road. Both performances begin at 7:30 p.m.

“South High continues its tradition of musical theatre excellence with the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, The Sound Of Music. This final collaboration between Rodgers and Hammerstein was destined to become a beloved musical,” said Thomas Marr, a drama teacher. “When a postulant proves too high-spirited for the religious life, she is dispatched to serve as governess for the seven children of a widowed naval captain. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern captain, and they marry. Upon returning from their honeymoon, they discover that Austria has been invaded by the Nazis, who demand the captain’s immediate service in their navy. The family’s narrow escape over the mountains to Switzerland on the eve of World War II provides one of the most thrilling and inspirational finales ever presented in the theatre.”

Attendees will hear all-time favorite tunes like Do Re Mi, The Sound Of Music, My Favorite Things, and Edelweiss. The production will support a full cast and pit orchestra.

Seating is general admission with some limited premium reserved seating. General admission seats are $15 for adults and $10 for students/seniors. Premium reserved seating (choose your seat in the first three rows) is $35.

A portion of the premium reserved seating proceeds will go to the Fran Harman Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in the Performing Arts and includes admission to the special intermission reception.
