The Million Dollar Round Table Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to Spectrum Designs Foundation, a Port Washington-based nonprofit business supporting Autism employment.

The grant will support the creation of a human resource manual, “Managing a Mission,” to serve and assist an Autism Spectrum Disorder workforce in an inclusive workplace.

“We are grateful to Allan Mendels for bringing Spectrum Designs to the attention of the MDRT Foundation. This manual will be an invaluable resource internally and will offer an avenue for Spectrum Designs to share best practices with other groups who can learn what we have gained from working and learning in this space for over ten years,” shares Spectrum Designs co-founder Nicole Sugrue.

The Million Dollar Round Table Foundation is committed to building stronger families and communities around the globe. This year, the foundation awarded over $1 million in MDRT member-endorsed grants to more than 200 charitable organizations worldwide.

Mendels, a member of the Spectrum Designs Business Advisory Board, presented this grant to Stella Spanakos, at a recent fundraising event, and said: “Since 2012, Spectrum Designs has been a unique business that employs young adults with Autism. I am proud to be part of the MDRT, who recognized Spectrum’s good work by granting money to fund the first of many resource manuals that will help replicate their good work in other locations.”

For over a decade, Spectrum Designs has been committed to providing people with Autism an opportunity to be contributing members to their community through productivity and gainful employment. With an estimated 90 percent unemployment rate among young adults with Autism, Spectrum Designs provides a safe and supportive environment in which to work, learn and expand horizons through pre-vocational training and an introduction to the world of work.
