Sportmen’s Club hosts 69th Snapper Derby

Saturday was a beautiful day for fishing at the 69th Richard Peneski Sr. Snapper Derby for local children, sponsored by the Manhasset Bay Sportsmen’s Club.

Right after Skip Campbell announced the start, both Molly Plunkett and Michael Wagner Jr. brought the first two fish to the table, while Ella Halufska (5) and Russel Vigneault (10) caught the most for a girl and boy. The snapper fishing was on fire all day with the kids catching close to 100 snappers.

At the same time, they were able to consume over 300 hot dogs and drank more than 10 cases of water and soda. By the end of the morning, more than 100 kids participated in the derby.

After the winning awards were given out, over 30 prizes were raffled off with the greeting of lots of happy faces. Everyone also received an M.B.S.C water bottle. The Manhasset Bay Sportsmen’s Club would like to thank all the young anglers who participated, Duffy’s Bait and Tackle for the bait, Atlantic Outfitters for prizes Town of North Hempstead for use of the dock, along with the many people who set up the derby.
