Barket Epstein Kearon Aldea & LoTurco, LLP, a boutique criminal defense and civil rights firm with offices in Garden City, Huntington, and New York City is proud to announce that a founding partner, Bruce A. Barket of Manhasset was awarded the New York State Bar Association’s “Charles F. Crimi Memorial Award,” at the association’s annual meeting and awards luncheon at the New York Hilton.
The award is presented in recognition of the professional career of a defense lawyer in private practice that embodies the highest ideals of the NYSBA’s Criminal Justice Section.  The list of prior recipients includes many of the giants in the field of criminal defense including Barry Scheck, Benjamin Brafman, Gerald Lefcort and Gerry Shargel.
“I am humbled to be placed in the company of these past recipients and proud to accept this award on behalf of our firm,” Barket said. “This award comes after 35 years of practice, having represented Marty Tankleff, Amy Fisher, and Christopher Loeb among many others.”
Barket graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1986 and has been a trial attorney ever since, first as a prosecutor for five years and then as a defense lawyer for nearly 30 years. He specializes in criminal defense matters representing individuals charged with serious crimes in both federal and state court and representing individuals who have been wrongly arrested or convicted or who suffered injuries as a result of police misconduct or the use of excessive force.
He is also the past president of the Nassau County Criminal Courts Bar Association, a past board member of the New York State Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, past president of the Nassau County Legal Aid Society, and a board member since 2000. He was twice given the “Gideon Award” by the NYSACDL in 2003 and 2008 and was recognized in 2005 as the “Practitioner of the Year” in Nassau County by the Criminal Courts Bar Association.
