Steppingstone Park painting donated to Park District

The Island Now

A phone call came into the Park District administration office one cold, wintry day in January, from an artist who created a painting of the district’s Steppingstone Park beachfront.

The local painter, who lives in Great Neck with his wife Kathe, is retired doctor Daniel Divack. He began painting at around age 35, just as he was completing his medical training/board certification as an obstetrician.

When asked if the district would like to accept this rendering of Steppingstone as a donation, of course, the district jumped at the chance.

Divack’s inspirational creations range from original designs to reproductions of the masters and is reflected in his uniquely personal artistic oil paintings, wood carving reliefs and friezes. His paintings suggest a certain truth and reality that bring the viewer into the painted scene.

He has never sold any of his artwork and doesn’t plan to. He considers his art his “babies” and he couldn’t bear to part with them. The Park District is fortunate to have received one of his treasured gems.
