Susan Isaacs, Port’s own best-selling author, launches the book tour for her brand-new novel, “Takes One to Know One,” at a special Friends of the Library program on Sunday, Oct. 6 at 2:30 p.m. in the Lapham Meeting Room. Described as Isaacs at her formidable best, “Takes One to Know One” is Isaacs’ 14th novel, released just this week. The plot involves a whip-smart suburban mystery revolving around a retired FBI agent turned into a Long Island housewife who suspects that her neighbor is harboring criminal secrets.

Advance reviews call the novel “bitingly wry” and “ominously thrilling.” The author of 13 best-selling novels and an e-book novella, Isaacs has written screenplays for two films. She is the recipient of the Writers for Writers Award and the John Steinbeck Award. Past president of Mystery Writers of America, she is now chairman of the board of the literary organization Poets & Writers.

Isaacs has had a long relationship with the Friends of the Library. She generously donates her time as moderator every spring at the Friends’ highly popular Book & Author Luncheon. For many luncheon attendees, it is Isaacs herself who is the major draw. In recognition of Isaacs’ commitment, the Friends of the Library established the library’s Susan Isaacs Collection in 2005. Marked with a special bookplate, the collection is devoted to books on women, with a special focus on women balancing careers with motherhood.

Following the program, in which Isaacs will be interviewed by journalist Adina Genn and take questions from the audience, there will be a reception honoring Isaacs in the adjacent Adler Art Gallery. “Takes One to Know One” will be for sale, and Isaacs will be signing. Patrons are encouraged to come early as seating is limited. Port Washington residents are given priority until 10 minutes before the program begins. The program also will be live-streamed on the Port’s YouTube channel for those who cannot be in attendance at https://www.youtube.com/user/library11050/.  Post-event the program will be saved and viewable on that channel as well.

“Susan Isaacs is our star, and we are thrilled and honored to present her as she launches her 14th novel,” states Amy Bass, president of the Friends of the Library. She adds: “We look forward to a wonderful afternoon.”
