This year, the congregation of Temple Emanuel of Great Neck is celebrating the 60th anniversary of the Emanuel building.

Ira Rosenzweig-Cooper, reelected president and newly-installed by Rabbi Robert Widom, said: “Good evening and welcome to our annual congregational meeting and 60th anniversary celebration. I am thankful for the 24 trustees who have been elected, and also for the ongoing work of the officers: Elaine Bassik, Hon. Steve J. Reiter, Jack Salzman, vice presidents; Allen Dreyfuss, treasurer; Jeffrey Hellerman, financial secretary; Erica Popkin, corresponding secretary; and Susan Ornstein, recording secretary. Edward Fernbach will continue to serve as Brotherhood president; Erica Popkin, following a hiatus, returns to the post of Sisterhood president.”

“Sandi joins me in celebrating my reelection as president of the synagogue,” Rosenzweig-Cooper continued. “Some say ‘how did you get so lucky?’—as if to imply, who needs the headache? On the contrary. I am proud of the work we do and the accomplishments that have been ours.”

“As we embark upon these next years, may we be remembered not only for teaching our heritage but for living it, because we, too, have sought to do justly, love mercy and walk humbly with our God,” Rosenzweig-Cooper concluded.
