Temple Isaiah of Great Neck to host forum on immigration

The Island Now

Temple Isaiah of Great Neck is hosting a community forum on immigration.

State Assemblyman Charles Lavine, a son of immigrants, and Nelson Melgar, a “Dreamer” from Honduras, will speak about how their common bonds of immigration unite them as colleagues and friends.

Following the presentation, there will be an open discussion of issues and actions citizens can take to encourage Congress to overturn the decision to end DACA and the Dreamer program.

In addition, Rabbi Jerry Blum will address the impending end to DACA during Shabbat services on Friday Nov. 3, after the Union for Reform Judaism took action to raise awareness of the injustice in the proposed immigration policy by asking clergy to address the immigration issue and encourage members to call their congressional representatives and senators on Monday Nov. 6 to urge them to block the new policy.

The community forum will be held at Temple Isaiah on Sunday Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. There is no admission charge. Temple Isaiah, located at One Chelsea Place off Cutter Mill Road, is a member congregation of the Union for Reform Judaism.
