Temple Israel of Great Neck will present its highest religious recognition to six members of the congregation on Simhat Torah, the holiday celebrating the Torah, on Friday, October 13.

Being honored at the holiday service will be Lila Bernstein-Schoen and Alexander Schoen, Rachelle and Dr. Ebby Ohebshalom, Van Frankel, and Manny Bardash, all residents of Great Neck and longtime members of the congregation.

The Schoens have served on numerous congregational committees. She is the vice president supplier management for Morgan Stanley and Mr. Schoen is the director of sponsored programs at NYU Winthrop Hospital. The Ohebshaloms immigrated to the United States from Iran, eventually settling in Great Neck. Dr. Ohebshalom, a physician, is in private practice.

Manny Bardash and Van Frankel were instrumental in the founding of Hatzilu, an organization that brings food and other assistance to the Jewish poor, in the 1970s. They have been bringing aid to Jewish members of the community for more than 40 years.

Temple Israel of Great Neck, the region’s largest Conservative Jewish congregation, is located at 108 Old Mill Road.
