The Art Guild announces 2019 Members’ Showcase Exhibit

The Art Guild invites current members to exhibit work in the 2019 Members’ Showcase Exhibit from May 25 to June 23. The deadline for entries is Friday, May 17 and artists may become members at the time of registration. The show will be on view at The Art Guild’s home, Elderfields Preserve, 200 Port Washington Blvd., Manhasset. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. or by appointment. A Garden Party Artists’ Reception and Awards Ceremony will be held on Friday, May 31, from 6 p.m. 8 pm with acoustic music by Chris Kinnear. Awards of merit, the annual Terri Shkuda Award for Broadening Creative Pursuits and Nassau County High School Senior Scholarships will be presented. This exhibit is generously sponsored by Fidelity Investments, based in Roslyn.

The juror-of-awards for this exhibit is Charles A. Riley II, Director of the Nassau County Museum of Art. Before becoming Director, Riley had a long association with the Museum as both a curator-at-large and a presenter of lectures in conjunction with the Museum’s exhibitions. Riley is the author of 32 books including, “The Jazz Age in France,” “The Art of Peter Max,” and “The Saints of Modern Art.” Riley has appeared on CNN, NBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC and Fox News. Born and raised in Manhasset, Riley is a summa cum laude graduate of Princeton University and received his Ph.D. from The Graduate Center of CCNY.

Classes and workshops for adults and children run year-round. Classes include: Get Sharper with Stephanie Navon-Jacobson on Mondays; Oil Painting with Joan Stevens on Tuesdays, beginning June 11; Watercolor for Beginners and Intermediates with Eileen Neville on Wednesdays beginning May 22; and Basic Drawing with Barbara Silbert, which starts Thursday, July 11. An Advanced Studio Class for High School Students is scheduled to weekly (for 12 sessions) beginning July 15. Five, week-long summer art workshops for children (5 and up), beginning July 8, are now registering. Please call or check the website for more information.

The Art Guild’s summer workshops include local and internationally known instructors. A four-week Plein Air Workshop with Howard Rose begins Monday, June 3. Acclaimed artist Jacqueline Kamin will teach The Floral Still Life Workshop, June 13-16 and will also demonstrate her painting technique and process on Wednesday, June 12. Logical Perspective with Howard Rose will be offered Saturday, July 13. Colored pencil artist Cynthia Knox, CPSA, will teach Painting with Colored Pencils as Fine Art Workshop, July 26-28. Patti Mollica returns to teach Blending Reality Color Theory Workshop, August 24-25. Robert Simone will teach an Alla Prima Plein Air Painting Workshop on September 13-15; and Lisa Daria Kennedy returns September 21-22 for Embrace the Practice – Daily Painting.
