Town to hold foreclosure prevention workshop for local realtors

The Town of North Hempstead, together with its Business, Tourism and Development Corporation, will be holding an informative Foreclosure Prevention Workshop at the “Yes We Can” Community Center in Westbury on Dec. 8 at 8:30 a.m.

The free workshop, which includes a buffet breakfast, is part of an educational campaign the Town is sponsoring to educate Realtors about the New York State programs available to homeowners facing difficulties with their mortgage payments and will also provide an opportunity to ask questions from experts in the field. 

Featured speakers include: Nancy Mosca, New York State Certified Real Estate Instructor and vice president for the L.I. Board of Realtors; Ian. S. Wilder, Esq. Acting Executive Director of Long Island Housing Services, Inc. and representatives from the Town’s Building and Town Attorney’s office.

Topics covered include; distressed properties, short sales, foreclosures and REO properties; the stages of foreclosure and key terms; what is the role of a nonprofit housing counselor/attorney; what is a modification and how to apply; what to do when a modification is unsuccessful or you don’t qualify; mortgage refinancing scams to avoid; available help through the Homeowner Protection Program and the Mortgage Assistant and more.
