Town holds foreclosure prevention workshop for local realtors

Supervisor Judi Bosworth and Town Board members Viviana Russell, Anna Kaplan and Peter Zuckerman and Town Clerk Wayne Wink, together with its Business, Tourism and Development Corporation, held a free, informative Foreclosure Prevention Workshop at the North Hempstead “Yes We Can” Community Center in Westbury on Friday, December 8. The free workshop was part of an educational campaign the Town is sponsoring to educate residents and professionals about foreclosure and prevention strategies. 

Featured speakers included Nancy Mosca, NYS Certified Real Estate Instructor and vice president for the L.I. Board of Realtors; Ian. S. Wilder, Esq. Acting Executive Director of Long Island Housing Services, Inc. and representatives from the Town’s Building and Town Attorney’s office.

Topics covered included distressed properties, short sales, foreclosures and REO properties; the stages of foreclosure and key terms; what is the role of a nonprofit housing counselor/attorney; what is a modification and how to apply; what to do when a modification is unsuccessful or you don’t qualify; mortgage refinancing scams to avoid; available help through the Homeowner Protection Program and the Mortgage Assistant and more.
