The Town of North Hempstead announced last week that the town will be celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, highlighted by a ceremony at the North Hempstead “Yes We Can” Community Center on Friday, Oct. 6 at 6 p.m.

All members of the public are welcome to attend.

As part of the ceremony, Town Supervisor Judi Bosworth and each council member will honor a Hispanic-American from their community who has positively influenced and enriched society.

The event will include live entertainment including a salsa performance and demonstration by Rhythmology and live music by Fiesta Tropical Triple M Band, as well as a mariachi performance by Isabel Martinez and flamenco guitar performance.

There will also be refreshments with traditional Latin cuisine local restaurants.

Hispanic Heritage Month begins each year on Sept. 15, the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries: Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, with Mexico’s anniversary of its independence on Sept. 16.

The North Hempstead “Yes We Can” Community Center is located at 141 Garden Street in Westbury.
