Town officials declare National Poppy Day in North Hempstead

The Island Now

Town of North Hempstead Supervisor Judi Bosworth, Council Member Veronica Ley, Town Clerk Wayne Wink, and Receiver of Taxes Charles Berman joined with the Manhasset American Legion Auxiliary Unit 304 on May 21 to support the American Legion’s Poppy Program.

For over 90 years, the American Legion Auxiliary has distributed the memorial poppy to remind Americans about the millions who sacrificed their lives to protect our nation. The red poppy serves as a symbol of remembrance and hope.

The goal of National Poppy Day is to educate the public about the servicemembers who have made the ultimate sacrifice fighting for freedom.

The Town of North Hempstead issued a proclamation to the Manhasset American Legion Auxiliary Unit 304 officially declaring May 28 as National Poppy Day in the Town of North Hempstead.

The American Legion Auxiliary poppy is handmade by veterans. Memorial poppy contributions go toward rehabilitation and assistance for veterans and their families. For more information, please visit www.ALAforVeterans.org.
