Two Roslyn High School sophomores—Jacob Gross and Cayden Shen— have been awarded a 2022 Mini-Research Grant from the New York Institute of Technology. The grant will be used to offset expenses they incur while conducting research into the growth of biofilm.

“Our research aims to find a more effective method to prevent the growth of biofilm, which contributes up to 60% of infections in humans,” said Cayden.

“It was encouraging to receive this generous grant and to know that others are interested in our research,” said Jacob.

“Cayden and Jacob have been working so hard on their project with their advisor Ms. Lisa Spyridon,” said Roslyn’s Coordinator of Secondary Research Dr. Allyson Weseley. “It is wonderful to see their efforts recognized and rewarded.”
