Michael DeMartino, a New Hyde Park resident, retired U. S. Army Colonel and retired principal of New Hyde Park Memorial High School, shared stories about his service with an audience at Barry Tech on Veteran’s Day. He displayed his father’s uniform, worn during WWII when he landed on Omaha Beach. While at Barry Tech, DeMartino he saw his former student, Michael Pugliese, who is the Barry Tech Gaming teacher.

The school’s staff and family veterans were honored during a roll call. Students demonstrated proper flag folding and explained the history of the American flag, while veterans made presentations. Bag pipers set the mood, and members of AMVETS Post 88 Honor Guard in Massapequa presented the colors at the ceremony to honor our nation’s veterans.
