Vigilant Fire Company hosting blood drive March 19

The Island Now

Vigilant Fire Company in Great Neck will be hosting a blood drive on Monday, March 19 from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. at its firehouse at 83 Cutter Mill Rd, Great Neck, NY, in order to help make up for blood donations lost from recent storms.

The Nor’easter on Friday, March 1 and Wednesday March 7 resulted in nearly 3,000 displaced blood donations from cancelled blood drives with the New York Blood Center. On top of this are appointments cancelled due to power outages.

While the New York Blood Center said it is making “every effort to reschedule the 40+ blood drives,” they are asking the community to help by finding a blood drive or donor center and making a blood donation as soon as the weather clears.

The New York Blood Center asks that these losses be shared with donors and potential donors in hope that the community will respond to this urgent need.
