Nature Program: Birding Basics for Beginners

On Saturday, Feb. 10, 12:30 p.m., this indoor presentation at Great Neck House will introduce adults to birds and their adaptation and provide information on where to go and what to get to learn more. A short bird walk following the presentation will be offered. Binoculars recommended. Register online gnparks.org or call (516) 482-0355. Children under 16 may not attend.

Weekend Movie at Great Neck House

Murder on the Orient Express (2017), directed by and starring Kenneth Branagh, is being shown at Great Neck House, Friday, Feb. 9 at 8 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 10, at 5:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m. Also starring Penélope Cruz and Willem Dafoe, a murder takes place on a train, in which a celebrated detective is traveling on, and he is recruited to solve the case. It is rated PG-13 and runs 1 hour and 54 minutes. Admission to Great Neck House requires a park card.

Enjoy an afternoon of opera, operetta, Broadway and jazz standards starring Jessica Fishenfeld on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 2:00 p.m. Jessica will be accompanied by pianist Dr. Pamela Levy and members of the Great Neck North and South High School choirs.

“American Soprano Jessica Fishenfeld, is known for her “dramatic” and “refined” voice with “soaring, glittering high notes and nice, easily audible chest tones,” according to the Palm Beach ArtsPaper. Admission to Great Neck House requires a park card.

Birthday Parties in the Park District

Interested patrons can book their child’s next celebration with the Park District. Options include a skating party at the Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink (516- 829-4323) and a unique-themed party package at Steppingstone Park (516- 482-0355). All parties include a private party room, two party hosts, invitations, pizza, cake and lots more. Check the Park Districts website at gnparks.org.

Camp Parkwood Winter Season at the Parkwood Sports Complex

Children in grades K-6, can enjoy the next session of Winter Camp Parkwood over the February break (Monday, Feb. 19 to Friday, Feb. 23, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.)

Activities include tennis, skating, hockey, archery, gymnastics and more. The children are grouped by age. Lunch may be purchased at the snack bar or can be brought from home. The residents fee is $450, while the non-residents fee is $500. The daily fee for residents is $120; non-residents $150. Register online at gnparks.org or call (516) 482-0355.

Defensive Driving Classes at Great Neck House

Great Neck House continues to offer Empire Safety Council Defensive Driving Classes. The classes run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The next class is Saturday, March 3. To sign up for a class or for more information, call Great Neck House at (516) 482-0355.
