Pet Food Drive at Main
Assemblyman Anthony D’Urso, 16th Assembly District, in partnership with Long Island Cares is holding an Annual Legislative Pet Food Drive. All Great Neck Library locations are accepting donations of unopened cans and/or bags of dog and cat food, cat box litter, treats and toys during the entire month of April. All donations are appreciated.
Performance Poets Association Readings at Station
Join George Pafitis when he hosts Performance Poets Association Readings on Saturday, April 7 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Station Branch, 26 Great Neck Road (2nd level), Gardens at Great Neck Plaza, above Best Market.
This is a monthly open mic forum open to all in collaboration with the Performance Poets Association. Participate in reading your own work and/or listen and support others. A featured poet will read for 20 minutes at each session, followed by an open-mic.
Performance Poets Association is a non-profit organization that provides a forum for local artists and brings original poetry and related arts to the public. The next meetings will be held on May 5 and June 2.

All are invited to enjoy the music of Shindig!1960s and 70s Band with lead vocalist Tony Traguardo on Sunday, April 8 at 2 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.
Shindig! performs music of The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, The Who, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Cream, Neil Young and more. Shindig! celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2018. Tony Traguardo is a librarian, music archivist, researcher, lecturer, producer/writer of multimedia presentations, and performs throughout the Long Island and Greater New York City area.
Homework Helpers at Main
Need help with your homework or a quiet place to get your homework done? The Great Neck Library offers a drop-in program where kids in grades K to 5 can receive homework help from high school students in a group setting. Stop by the Large Multipurpose Room on the lower level on each day of the program to check in. Richard Ehrlich has kept track of life’s smallest moments, following Ralph Waldo Emerson’s philosophy that the meaning of life can be found by giving “a little consideration” to the things that take place around us every day. Ehrlich has compiled personal essays that reveal the constants of his daily routine. Books will be available for purchase and signing at the event.

Actress Shirley Romaine celebrates National Poetry month when she presents “Edna St. Vincent Millay: Voice of the Jazz Age” on Friday, April 13 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.
Edna St. Vincent Millay was the first woman to win the Pulitzer Prize for poetry in 1923 and was the herald of the new woman. She was the Jazz Age rock star. But there was a dark side. Shirley Romaine has performed both on and off Broadway, on daytime and primetime TV, and in original programs incorporating theater, poetry, art, dance and music throughout the metropolitan area and beyond. For many years, she was the host of Artscene on Long Island for Cablevision.

In order to access this service, Library District residents can log on to cancellations.com, type in their zip code or Great Neck Library and obtain information on program cancellations or Library closings. In addition, at no charge, residents can request automatic e-mails from cancellations.com when the Library has posted any information. This is a way for Library District residents who are connected online to be advised of weather related changes in Library hours or programs.
