Chinese New Year Celebration
Presented by the Great Neck Chinese Association at Main

Celebrate the Chinese New Year 2018, the Year of the Dog, with the Great Neck Chinese Association on Saturday, Feb. 10 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

The Chinese New Year, also known as Spring Festival, is the most important social and economic holiday in China. The Great Neck Chinese Association invites everyone to join them on a special celebration to learn the history and traditions of this important Chinese holiday and also enjoy a hand puppet show “Hao Bang Ah, Dog!” presented by the Chinese Theatre Works, Inc.

This show, created to honor the Dog, zodiac animal of the year, features traditional Chinese style hand puppets, songs, folk tales, games, audience participation and other surprises designed to delight and entertain kids and adults alike.

Lunar New Year at Parkville

All are invited to enjoy a celebration of the Lunar New Year on Saturday, Feb. 10 from
3:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the Parkville Branch, 10 Campbell Street, off Lakeville Road, New Hyde Park. There will be crafts and refreshments starting at 3:00 p.m. and Lion Dancers will perform.

Enjoy this fun-filled presentation about Frank Sinatra – conceived, directed and performed by Mel Glazer, on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 2:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Learn about Frank Sinatra the man, his relationships to family and friends, how he touched so many lives all over the world, and why he is known as one of the three greatest entertainers of the 20th century through music, trivia, Q&A, a PowerPoint presentation, and audience-interactive setting.

Mel Glazer is also an educator and a state sponsored speaker on behalf of the New Jersey Council for the Humanities on Frank Sinatra, as well as an ASCAP award-winning songwriter, co-writer of songs recorded by Etta James, Elvis Presley, and Robert Plant, among others. Mel is an associate professor of Professional Selling and Sales Management at Five Towns College in Dix Hills where he was awarded a Doctor of Humane Letters.

Join award-winning author Natalie S. Harnett when she discusses how to get your writing into print and promote it as well on Monday, Feb. 12 at 7:00 p.m. in the Community Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

Natalie Harnett’s publications include the Chicago Quarterly Review, The Irish Echo, and The New York Times. Her debut novel, The Hollow Ground, won the 2015 John Gardner Fiction Book Award, the 2014 Appalachian Book of the Year Award and was longlisted for the 2016 International Dublin Literary Award.

Great Decisions
Facilitated by Librarian Christy Orquera at Main

The second Great Decisions discussion on global issues, facilitated by Librarian Christy Orquera will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 6:30 p.m. in the Large Multipurpose Room of the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue. The topic is Russia’s Foreign Policy.

Wednesday Matinee Film at Main

The next Wednesday Matinee at Main features the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet against a backdrop of rival street gang warfare in 1950s New York as two youths fall in love from opposing groups. It will be shown on Wednesday, Feb. 14 at 2:00 p.m. at the Main Library, 159 Bayview Avenue.

It will be shown on Feb. 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Station Branch, 26 Great Neck Road, Gardens at Great Neck Plaza, above Best Market.
