Congresswoman Rice and Nassau Police bring AT&T “It Can Wait” event to Mineola High School

The Island Now

AT&T is teaming up with Congresswoman Kathleen Rice to bring their nationwide “It Can Wait” campaign to Mineola High School.

Students will hear from Rice, AT&T’s Brandon Ray, Regional Director of External Affairs Long Island, Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder, and Mineola High School Principal Whitney Smith on the dangers of distracted driving.

Rice will also outline her new legislation, the “Distracted Driving Education Act.” The legislation directs the Secretary of Transportation to establish a new national competitive grant program to educate the public on the risks of distracted driving.

After hearing from the speakers, students will have the opportunity to watch the “The Last Text” video and take the pledge to never drive distracted again, joining over 20 million who have already pledged not to use their smartphone while driving.

Rice, Ray, Ryder, and Smith will be available for interviews following the presentation.

The event will take place Monday, Dec. 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. in the Mineola High School auditorium, located at 10 Armstrong Road Garden City Park.
