After years of anticipation, construction is set to begin on Monday to add parking spaces and reconfigure traffic flow in a Manhasset commuter parking lot.

Commuter lot No. 3, which borders Mary Jane Davies Green between Memorial Place and Manhasset Avenue, will be under construction for about a week, according to a statement from the Manhasset Park District Board of Commissioners.

Construction is expected to be completed by May 13, and during construction, 12 parking spaces along the intersection with Mary Jane Davies will be unavailable.

During the renovations, 16 parking spaces will be added to the lot by reconfiguring the arrangement of parking rows.

Once construction is completed, the entrances and exits for the lot will also be rearranged.

To enter from Memorial Avenue, commuters will need to go through the Mary Jane Davies’ parking lot. Manhasset Avenue’s northeastern entrance and exit will be closed.

All exiting vehicles from the lot will be restricted to the Mary Jane Davies lot and Manhasset Avenue’s northwest exit.

The Mary Jane Davies lot will remain an exit-only driveway onto Manhasset Avenue.

Please be patient as it will take some time to get used to the changes that are being made,” the board said in a statement. “Our employees will be in the lot and available to help the community navigate these changes. We are always looking for alternative ways and additional opportunities to increase parking for the community.”

During construction, commissioners said they advise commuters who regularly use lot No. 3 to carpool or be dropped off.

The project, which has been an ongoing discussion between the park district and the Town of North Hempstead since 2014, has been a constant conversation in the Council of Greater Manhasset Civic Associations meetings with Town Councilwoman Anna Kaplan.
