Denton Avenue Elementary School dazzled in color on April 28 as more than 350 students, teachers, and family members participated in Denton’s inaugural Color Run. The event, sponsored and organized by the school’s PTA, provided an untimed fun run/walk for all ages with brilliant splashes of colored powder along the way.

The event kicked off with a fun Zumba warm-up led by Denton teacher, Lora Balsamo. The students were then treated to an inspiring bubble run around the field before the anticipated Color Run. The countdown to the Color Run began, and participants took off after the DJ shouted, “3-2-1, GO!” Each grade ran past stations that sprayed all the colors of the rainbow. Students, teachers and family members finished each race with bright smiles, medals around their necks and color plastered from head to toe.

Students also had a bubble run around the field before the Color Run.

This colorful community event received support from local businesses, including Foodtown, North Shore Farms and Panera donated food and water, Maxwell Medical offered massages and Salon Eco provided hair braiding. Each racer also received swag bags filled with local coupons, goodies and prizes, as well as Denton Color Run T-shirts.

More than 75 volunteers were needed to make the day a success. Denton teacher and Herricks Lacrosse Coach Lyndsey DeSarbo recruited both her Varsity and Junior Varsity teams to assist. The Color Run ended with a color toss celebration and raffle prize drawings donated by local businesses, including weeklong camps to theCoderSchool in Syosset.

“Fun was had by all at Denton’s first color Fun Run,” said Assistant Principal Beth Rosenman. “Thanks to our PTA for their continued hard work and effort with all they do for our Denton family.”

Denton fifth-graders shouted, “This is the best day ever!”
