Republican Jennifer DeSena led Democrat Wayne Wink by more than 3,000 votes in the race for Town of North Hempstead supervisor on Wednesday, according to results from the Nassau County Board of Elections.
DeSena had 21,466 votes, while Wink had 18,327, with thousands of absentee ballots yet to be counted in Tuesday’s election.
DeSena, of Manhasset, is the executive director of the Manhasset Coalition Against Substance Abuse.
On Tuesday, she credited the lead to her team and her family for all of their hard work during the campaign.
“Thank you from a total newcomer pulling me right out of the community,” DeSena said. “I’m really excited to serve you and working with this team.”
Wink, of Roslyn, is serving his second term as town clerk. The winner will succeed Democratic Supervisor Judi Bosworth, 73, who did not seek re-election for a fifth term.
Efforts to reach the Board of Elections for comment on the status of outstanding absentee ballots were unavailing. According to Newsday, at least 4,000 absentee ballots remained outstanding in the supervisor race.
Absentee ballots can be received by the county until Nov. 9, as long as they were postmarked by Election Day.
Republican Ragini Srivastava led Councilwoman Viviana Russell in the race for town clerk as of Wednesday. According to the Board of Elections, Srivastava got 21,744 votes, or 55 percent, and Russell received 17,686.
Democrat Robert Troiano led Republican Kerri Delio by less than 600 votes in the race to replace Russell on the Town Board in the 1st District. The Democrat’s 2,709 votes to Delio’s 2,112 was enough for 56 percent. The district includes the Port Washington peninsula, Plandome, Plandome Manor, Plandome Heights, Munsey Park and Flower Hill.
Mineola Trustee Dennis Walsh led Democrat Christine Pusateri for the open Town Board seat in North Hempstead’s 3rd District. The seat is held by Republican Angelo Ferrara, who decided not to run for re-election. Walsh led the district that includes Williston Park, Mineola, and parts of Garden City Park and New Hyde Park with 4,387 votes, or nearly 63 percent. Pusateri received 2,612 votes as of Wednesday, according to the results.
Republican David Adhami led Democrat Peter Fishkind in the race for Town Board in the 5th District. The seat, currently held by Democrat Lee Seeman, includes parts of the Great Neck peninsula, Lake Success, North New Hyde Park and parts of Floral Park. Ahami had 3,562 votes, or 55 percent, and Fishkind had 2,904.
