“In the Spring, I have counted 136 different kinds of weather inside of 24 hours.”

Mark Twain

Two weeks ago, I mentioned that 70-degree weather was predicted and it felt like spring was arriving early.

As I type tonight, a mix of rain and snow has begun to fall. Are we going backward? Hopefully, the storm that has been predicted does not turn out as bad as indicated in the weather reports.

A few years back the board established the Hometown Heroes program.

Tina Farrell has been the chairwomen and she has done an excellent job overseeing the program.

Residents were notified that village residents on active duty with the U.S. Military would be honored with a banner recognizing the individual, to be hung on a village lamppost.

To be so honored, a request should be submitted by letter sent to Village Hall to the attention of Tina Farrell.

The program has been successful with a number of active servicemen and women being so honored. Funding for the program is provided by private donations from residents.

Anyone wishing to contribute to this program should either call or visit Village Hall (516-746-2193).

This Saturday the Recreation Committee’s planned coin hunt is expected to take place, depending on the weather that may impact Kelleher Field this week.

The village will send out a notification on Friday to inform residents as to the status of this family event. For those not listed on the notification system should ask friends who are enrolled, in this worthwhile program, or call Village Hall before 4 p.m. on Friday.

On a separate note, those residents who have not signed up should consider doing so. This program began a few years back and has been well received.

Initially, a small number of residents decided to participate, however, the number of residents coved has expanded greatly.

It’s advantageous to all to stay informed on village activities and most importantly, informed regarding emergency situations that impact the village.

To sign up either call Village Hall atv516-746-2193 or send your email address to notifications@villageofwillistonpark.org.

On a more somber note, Harry Fleischer, former Fire Chief of the Williston Park Fire Department passed away last week.

Harry, besides being a long time member of the department, volunteered over time with various village committees, most recently as a mem of the Village Parking and Safety Committee.

Condolences and prayers go out to his wife Loretta.
