Amid monthslong public concern over the proposed arena at Belmont Park, developers revealed slight alterations to the plan during a public meeting at the Elmont Memorial Library on Tuesday.
The project will include a new arena for the New York Islanders, as well as a shopping complex, a hotel and open community space.
During Tuesday’s meeting developers said the new plan would include a 150-feet cap on the height of the hotel, 10 stories shorter than the initial proposal, according to Newsday.
The hotel height was a concern Floral Park Mayor Dominick Longobardi raised in a message to residents in March.
He said the then proposed 265-foot-high hotel would be one of the tallest buildings in the county.
Longobardi also raised concern over the 40,000-square-foot electric substation that was to border the Bellerose Elementary School.
Developers said a new location is being sought for the power substation, according to Newsday.
The power substation proximity was also an issue Floral Park resident Kristine Flood expressed at a March 27 meeting.
Flood had said she’s concerned about the future of her two small children.
“She’s the future of Floral Park. She is the child who is running around playing soccer at Floral Park Bellerose School,” Flood said. “She plays on the playground, and she does not need this impeding on her quality of life — not now, and not 30 years from now should she choose to raise her family in Floral Park as I have.”
The Empire State Development agency and Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced the project’s approval in January.
The proposed development by New York Arena Partners, a joint venture between Sterling Development and Oak View Group, includes a 19,000-seat arena with 18,000 seats available for New York Islander games, a 250-room hotel, 435,000 square feet of retail space, 30,000 square feet of office space, 10,000 square feet for a community space, up to 8.5 acres of public open space and up to 3,700 parking spaces.
The project is slated to be complete by 2021.
