New concert series celebrates the four seasons

The Sands Point Preserve Conservancy, located on the Gold Coast of Long Island, will present four magical concerts on Feb. 2, April 6, July 13 and Oct. 5, followed by themed dinners, in four stunning locations across the Preserve.

The former Guggenheim Estate’s historic mansions and waterfront grounds are the backdrop. Each concert is a unique program of chamber music and poetry, inspired by themes throughout the year.

The new series offers the distinguished Lark Quartet’s final concerts this year in collaboration with brilliant, internationally renowned musicians and spoken word artists including Todd Reynolds and Rebecca Fischer (violin), Alberto Parrini and Jeffrey Zeigler (cello), James Martin (baritone), Yousif Sheronick (percussion) and Nathan Koci (accordion).

The series will present captivating, thought-provoking performances with repertoire ranging from Bach and Mozart to today’s culturally diverse composers. The series is designed for adults, but children age 8 and over are welcome.

The concerts, all scheduled from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m., are as follows:

Concert I → Winter Love: An Evening of String Quartet, Baritone and Percussion in Hempstead House’s Winter Living Room, Sands Point Preserve on Saturday, Feb. 2. The artists will include: Deborah Buck and Basia Danilow, violins; Kathryn Lockwood, viola; Alberto Parrini, cello; James Martin, baritone and poetry reader; and Yousif Sheronick, percussion. The program will feature music by J.S.Bach, John Patitucci, William Bolcom, Yousif Sheronick, Ljova, W.A. Mozart, Kenji Bunch and George Gershwin.

Concert II → Riotous Spring: An Evening of String Quartet, Clarinet and Percussion in Castle Gould’s Great Hall, Sands Point Preserve on Saturday, April 6. The artists will include Deborah Buck and Basia Danilow, violins; Kathryn Lockwood, viola; Caroline Stinson, cello; Romie de Guise-Langlois, clarinet; Yousif Sheronick, percussion; and Andrew Waggoner, poetry reader. The program will feature music by J.S. Bach, Enzo Rao Camimi, W.A. Mozart and Anna Weesner.

Concert III → Summer Playlist: An Evening of Strings, Accordion and Percussion in the Hempstead House and Rose Garden on Saturday, July 13. The artists will include Todd Reynolds, violin; Kathryn Lockwood, viola; Nathan Koci, accordion; and Yousif Sheronick, percussion.  The program will feature music by J.S.Bach, Zhao Ji-Ping, W.A. Mozart, Yousif Sheronick, Shirish Korde and Guy Klucevsek

Concert IV → Autumn Leaves: An Evening of String Quartet and Percussion (location to be determined) on Saturday, Oct. 5. The artists will include Rebecca Fischer and Basia Danilow, violins; Kathryn Lockwood, viola; Jeffrey Zeigler, cello; and Yousif Sheronick, percussion. The program will feature music by J.S Bach, Kenji Bunch, W. A. Mozart, Gershwin, Philip Glass and Giovanni Sollima.

In her new venture as artistic director, violist Lockwood uses her more than 25 years of chamber music experience to create unique and inspiring programming. Formerly a member of Pacifica Quartet, and currently a member of Lark and duoJalal, Lockwood has performed worldwide on the chamber music stage.

The New York-based Lark Quartet has contributed 34 years to the chamber music scene in America. The all-female quartet is acknowledged for its distinguished contribution to the string chamber music repertoire, commissioning over 30 new works from some of America’s most celebrated composers. They are currently recording their final album together on Bridge Records with multi-Grammy winning producer, Judith Sherman. This album includes four commissions by American composers Kenji Bunch, John Harbison, Andrew Waggoner and Anna Weesner. The album is scheduled for release in the fall.

Each concert will be preceded by cocktails at 6:30 p.m. and followed by dinner and dessert at 8 p.m. The seasonal dinner menus will be created by master chef Nicola Zanghi and prepared by Philip Stone Catering.

Tickets to the concert are $100 per adult and $50 youth (8-18) for Sands Point Preserve Conservancy Members, and $115 per adult and $60 youth (8-18) for non-members.
