The Huntington Arts Council has announced the exhibition, “Absolutely Abstract,” with juror Maxine Jurow.

The opening reception will take place on Friday, Aug. 18 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Main Street Gallery located at 213 Main St. in Huntington.

This event is free to kick off the exhibit that will be on display from Aug. 17 through Sept. 9.

Jurow has worked in the language of abstraction throughout her artistic career.

She has traveled widely, bringing impressions and inspirations from as far away as Australia and as nearby as the Long Island sound to her colorscape paintings and pastels.

Jurow sees abstraction as an imaginative process, rooted in observation and tied by the thinnest thread to objective reality.

She holds a BFA and MFA from Long Island University.

“As the juror for this show, I found it to be a very special endeavor. The work was excellent, exciting, and varied by materials, size, shape, form and color. What an interesting body of work,” she said.

The exhibit will feature the work of Patrick Aievoli, Lauren Bailey, Sean Ross Bennett, Arthur Bernstein, Renee Caine, Louise Cassano, John Castella, Grainne de Buitlear, Kathie Domney, Paul Edelson, Terry Finch, Nicole Franz, Stuart Friedman, Diego Garcia, Susan Geffken Burton, Phyllis Gildston, Alicia Gitlitz, Margaret Henning, Suzanne Hill, Jeffrey Hollman, Caroline Isacsson, Ron Janssen, Barbara Jones, Tara Leale-Porter, Sharon Lobo, Celeste Mauro, Karen Miller O’Keefe, J. Molefsky, Michelle Palatnik, Bonnie Peritz, Joan Rockwell, Coleen Ryan-Rivera, Che Sabalja, Nicole Sagginario, Khurshid Saleem, Lawrence Schloss, Ryan Sloan, Jackie Stevens, Kenneth Strier, Donald Wilson, Stephen Wyler and Peter Young

Huntington Arts Council Executive Director Marc Courtade said, “We are excited for this upcoming Abstract show. The work accepted into this exhibit really defines the diversity of the genre. The imagery and use of color and technique is wonderful. Please stop by the gallery and enjoy the show!”
