Adelphi to host documentary screening, Q&A about Veterans and their service dogs

The Island Now

Veterans returning home service can often be wrought with depression and a wrenching disconnect from the world they once inhabited – but the unconditional love and support of a service dog can make a difference.

On Tuesday, March 10, Adelphi University will host a special screening of “To Be of Service,” a feature-length documentary film exploring the remarkable life enhancements resulting from the introduction of trained service dogs into the lives of veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.

The documentary takes audiences across the country to meet veterans just before they are paired with their service dog and follows the new pairs as they learn to navigate their days more comfortably and independently, helps them sleep without night terrors and, over time, restores their ability to feel safe, to trust and to love.

Following the screening, the film’s director, Josh Aronson, along with veterans Glen Mood and Greg Kolodziejczyk and their service dogs, will participate in a Q&A session.

The event is open to the public and free of charge. The screening and Q&A will take place from 6:45 to 9 p.m. in the Adelphi Performing Arts Center Concert Hall.
