Amazon Prime series ‘Hunters’ gives shoutout to Long Island

While the Amazon Prime series “Hunters” takes place in New York City, the show was also quick to bring up Long Island, both behind the scenes and on camera.

The very first scene of the series was filmed in Sands Point. Additionally, one of the main characters briefly talks about Port Washington early in the second episode.

The Port Washington-Sands Point area is no stranger to film and television.

A scene from the 1947 classic Christmas movie, “Miracle on 34th Street,” was filmed in Port Washington. Additionally, scenes from films like the 1970’s “Husbands,” 1991’s “New Jack City,” the 1992 films “Malcolm X” and “Scent of a Woman,” “1998’s “Great Expectations” and the 2000 movie “Meet the Parents” were filmed in Port Washington. Scenes from the “Gossip Girl” episode “Summer Kind of Wonderful” and the pilot for “Masters of Sex” were also filmed in Port Washington.

In addition to “The Godfather” having the iconic scene of the assassination of Sonny filmed at Mitchel Field in Uniondale, the infamous horse head scene was filmed inside Sands Point’s Falaise Mansion.

Hunters is about a group of Nazi hunters in 1977 New York City who track down and kill former members hiding out in the United States.

They soon discover the fascist group have already infiltrated the United States government and are planning to create a “Fourth Reich” in the country.

Academy Award winner Al Pacino and Logan Lerman star as the leader of the Hunter group and the newest member respectively. The cast is rounded out by Josh Radnor, Kate Mulvany, Jerrika Hinton, Lena Olin, Greg Austin, Saul Rubinek, Carol Kane, Tiffany Boone, Louis Ozawa and Dylan Baker.
