An afternoon of art for kids in Manhasset

The Island Now

Families are invited to the Fourth Annual CreARTive at The Art Guild on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 1 to 4 p.m.

The open house at Nassau County’s Elderfields Preserve features free art-related activities such as tie-dying, simple printmaking, painting, clay hand-building and more.

The projects will be geared for children ages 5 through 12, but all are invited to attend. CreARTive will take place inside Elderfields in the event of rain.

Our art classes for kids are fun and educational,” said Director of Programming and PR Susan Herbst. “Our teachers are amazing professionals who come up with creative projects every week all year long. We’d like to reach out to parents, schools and the community to let them know that we offer fun, reasonably priced art classes for students of all ages — from kindergarten through high school.”

The fall schedule of classes for children and adults are open for registration. Children’s classes will now run for 12 weeks and include two different sessions each for ages 5 to 7 and 8 to 12.

Adult classes include: Oil Painting (All Levels) with Joan Stevens; Watercolor (Beginner and Intermediate) with Eileen Neville; and Drawing and Painting the Figure with Leeanna Chipana. All are now open for registration.

Upcoming workshops for adults include Smartphone Photography with Howard Rose on August 25; A-Z Textures and Surfaces with Patti Mollica on September 29; Expressive Pastels with Karen Margulis, October 26 through 28; and Simple and Sophisticated Relief Printing with Stephanie Navon-Jacobson, November 10 and 11.

On Wednesday, Aug. 22, there will be a free Golden Products Demo with Roy Kinzer. (Space is limited, registration is required.) More classes and workshops are added throughout the year.

The next gallery exhibit is “Wallflowers.” The juror of awards for the exhibit will be award-winning artist Sharon Pearsall. The show will be on view from September 1 to 30, with an Artist’s Reception on Sunday, Sept. 16 from 3 to 5 p.m.

The Art Guild is located at Nassau County’s historic Elderfields Preserve, 200 Port Washington Blvd. in Manhasset.
